Safety Data Sheets - New changes

Starting from 1 December 2010 manufacturers / importers and downstream users of hazardous substances and mixtures will be operating in a completely different scenario than in the past
The 1 December fact is the first of the deadlines set by Regulation (EC) n.1272/08 (CLP) going to change the criteria for classification labeling and packaging (whose reference to the last 40 years has been the Directive 67/548), but also (in fact) is the first of the deadlines set by Regulation (EC) No 453/2010 which will replace the annexes of the REACH Annex II which sets out the requirements for Safety Data Sheet - SDS .

The most significant stages of the transition to the new criteria for the preparation of the SDS are:
  • Until November 30, 2010, suppliers of substances and mixtures according to the SDS will be able to draw up the requirements set from the Annex II of the REACH Regulation, but may apply to Annex I of Regulation No 453/2010.
  • From 1 December 2010, suppliers of substances and mixtures, must necessarily provide SDS prepared in accordance with Annex I of Regulation No 453/2010 with specific exceptions (Article 61, paragraph 4, of CLP)
  • From 1 June 2015, suppliers of substances and mixtures, must necessarily provide SDS prepared in accordance with Annex II of Regulation No. 453/2010, again with specific exceptions.
Finally, once again marks the 1 December 2010, as from that date until January 3, 2011 manufacturers / importers of chemicals subject to REACH registration process and hazardous substances manufactured and / or imported in quantities of less than 1 ton per year (free entry) will proceed to "NOTIFICATION" the classification and labeling under Article. 40 of Reg (EC) n.1272/08 (CLP).
